The Showdown in Philadelphia
My hat goes off to the odds makers who set up the 49ers as 3-point favorites. That’s a bold move. Although the Eagles have been steadily winning all season, many of those games are second-half comebacks ending in one-score wins. They seem to stumble through the games until Jalen Hurts saves the day.
San Francisco had a three-game losing streak, and it looked like they were falling apart. But since then, they’ve closed all the holes in their lineup and dominated all the games they’ve played. Trading for defensive end Chase Young added a surprisingly effective pass rusher to the roster. The 49ers have the momentum; the only thing that could stop them is a high-level injury on someone like Purdy.
If the Eagles go by their playbook, they’ll be down in the second half before Hurts makes his move and wins it in the end. But manage your risks on this one, as it could go either way in a hurry.
The Broncos Have the Longest Winning Streak in the NFL
Denver probably has the most dramatic turnaround this season. They started the season 0-3 and moved up to 1-6, only beating the Bears. Since then, they’ve been on a five-game winning streak, defeating the likes of Buffalo, Kansas City, and Cleveland.
In the first three games, they only forced one turnover. Now, they lead the NFL with 22. Fifteen of those were in the last four games. On the other side of the ball, Russell Wilson has had no picks in their last five wins.
The Texans are 4-2 SU at home, and C.J. Stroud continues to dazzle. However, Stroud has turned over the ball six times in the last three weeks. Looking at the turnover ratio between these teams, it seems improbable that the Texans will win this one. The only thing that swings their way is that Denver hasn’t been great on the road. I would prepare for an upset – just in case.
The Bengals Are Declawed
What could have been a game between two number-one overall draft picks is now Cincinnati trying to stay in playoff contention. With Joe Burrow out the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his wrist, Jake Browning will do his best to put points on the board for the Bengals.
The Jaguars won’t let the Bengals run the ball, which is okay since Cincinnati is dead last in the league in rushing (75.4 rushing yards per game). That means the Bengals must rely on Browning’s passing game, which is good because the Jaguars have difficulty stopping the pass. However, Browning will have to get the ball off quicker, as he was sacked four times in the last game.
With Jacksonville hosting Monday Night Football for the first time in 12 years, you know they’re going to put on a fantastic show for their fans. Browning will be overwhelmed, and Jacksonville will cover the spread.
The Saints are Fighting for the Lead in the NFC South
New Orleans couldn’t beat Atlanta to take over the top spot in the Division last week, but they’ll try again this week against the Lions. They have a chance because Detroit has been struggling as of late. They lost to the Packers last week and barely beat the Bears the week before.
But the Lions have been great on the road. They’re 4-1 SU and ATS. Their only loss came against the Ravens. Conversely, the Saints have not done well at home, with a record of 2-2 SU and 0-4 ATS.
The Lions’ defense has not been stellar this season, but their offensive talent is undeniable. Assuming their defenses are similar, Detroit will put more points on the board than New Orleans. The measly four-point spread favoring Detroit is an overreaction to their loss to Green Bay. Expect Detroit to cover that spread easily.
