New York Sports BettingThe New York metropolitan area includes New York City, Long Island, Lower Hudson Valley, Northern and Central New Jersey, and parts of Western Connecticut. That holds over twenty million people and is the largest concentration in the US. With the largest concentration of people, you’ll also get the most professional sports teams in the country, and this of course means sports betting in New York is a big deal. That includes major sports like football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse.

With all those teams to watch and follow, is sports betting legal in New York?

Sports Betting New York – The Low Down

As of January 8, 2022, placing online bets is legal as the New York sports betting rules have recently changed.

Only a handful of NY online sportsbooks are licensed so far, but the rules should continue to relax as the government enjoys the sports betting revenue. Retail sports betting has been legal for some time, but you must go into a casino to place your bet. Now, mobile betting allows players to bet from anywhere.

New York Giants – They play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at the MetLife Stadium, only five miles west of New York City. They were among the five teams to join the NFL in 1925 but are the only ones left. The Giants have eight NFL championship titles. Four came before the Super Bowl era, and four came after.

They started as the “New York National League Football Company, Inc.” then changed to “New York Football Giants, Inc.” in 1937. The baseball team with the same name moved to San Francisco after the 1957 football season. You probably know them as “Big Blue,” the ‘G-Men,” or the “Jints.”

The Giants and Philadelphia Eagles have the oldest NFC East rivalry, dating back to 1933. It’s often been called the best rivalry in the NFL.

Buffalo Bills – play in Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. Founded in 1960 in the AFL, they joined the NFL in 1970 following the merger. Their name comes from a Buffalo team that was part of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), which got its name from the western frontiersman Buffalo Bill. They are the only NFL team that actually plays in New York State. They have made it to the Super Bowl four times but have not won yet.
