The Biggest Rivalry of the Week – Maybe the Season
On Saturday, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes visit the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines. It could be the biggest game of the season so far. Both teams have an undefeated 11-0 record, and both need to win this one if they hope to get into the College Football Playoff. The winner will also decide the Big Ten East.
The Wolverines have beaten the Buckeyes in the last two meetings by focusing on the ground game. The Buckeyes have strengthened their defense against the rush but will need to focus on slowing down Blake Corum. He has a rushing touchdown in every game this season, while Ohio State has not allowed a touchdown in their last two games, and they have allowed 17 points or less in each game this season.
Michigan’s game against Maryland in Week 12 was their toughest as Maryland came back from a 13-point deficit at halftime to within five points in the third quarter. Their confidence will be tested this week.
The betting could get heavy for this game, so keep your limits in.
No. 6 Oregon is Playing Some of the Best Football in the Nation
The Ducks have won 10 games this season, and in all of those except the first one, they’ve scored 35 points or more. In six of those, they’ve won by at least 35 points. With Bo Nix, they’ve been able to put a lot of points on the board, but their defense should get credit for a big part of their success.
The No. 15 Oregon State Beavers are also playing well on both sides of the ball. They showcased a respectable game against No. Washington last week, keeping it close: 22-20. We could see a low-scoring game this week, too… but I doubt it.
The last three meetups between these rivals were decided by nine points or less, which will make this a nail-biter till the end. I don’t see Oregon covering the 14.5-point spread.
Missouri Escapes a Close Call
The Tigers’ Brady Cook threw to Luther Burden on a fourth-and-17 to set up a 30-yard field goal with five seconds left to edge past the Gators, 33-31. They took away Florida’s chance of a bowl game and could be eligible for the Cotton Bowl if they beat Arkansas this weekend.
The Tigers have beaten the Razorbacks six of the last seven times they’ve met, but Arkansas is 4-1 ATS when underdogs, so keep an eye on this one.
No. 9 Louisville Clinches the ACC Championship Game
After a wild ACC win against Miami, the Cardinals are in. First-year coach Jeff Brohm achieved an impressive accomplishment by getting the team to the championship for the first time since they joined the conference in 2014. They finished last season at 6-7.
Kentucky has lost five of their last six games, but they’ve beaten Louisville the last four times they’ve met. That last stat might worry you, but remember, the Cardinals are a much better team this year under Brohm. They’ll win, but they’ve already had five one-score victories this season, so covering the spread might be tricky.
