Seattle Seahawks 2023 Preview. The Hawks surprised everyone in 2022. After trading away quarterback Russell Wilson to Denver, no one expected anything from Geno Smith or Drew Lock. The team had mediocre veterans, but their rookie class was among the best in recent NFL history. Their offense exploded with Rookie of the Year running back Kenneth Walker III leading the way. Unfortunately, the defense had several new, young starters and was overwhelmed most of the season.
Seattle spent the off-season improving the defense by bringing in linebackers Bobby Wagner and Devin Bush, defensive ends Dre’Mont Jones and Jarran Reed, and safety Julian Love.

The Seahawks are Riding with Geno this Season
The comeback player of the year in 2022 will be starting quarterback again this season for Seattle. Geno Smith has struggled since being drafted by the New York Jets in 2013. His inconsistent performance and injuries kept him from the starter position for most of his career. He arrived in Seattle in 2019 but didn’t get the starting position until the opening game of the 2022 season.
On December 21, 2022, Geno was selected for his first Pro Bowl and ended the regular season with several career highs, including completing 399 of 572 passes with a league-leading 69.8% completion percentage. He was also the only quarterback in the NFL to take every offensive snap for his team in that season. He re-signed with Seattle for a three-year deal worth $75 million. It looks like Geno has found his groove, and the Seahawks are all in!
He’ll have a better offense surrounding him as they signed center Evan Brown and drafted guard Anthony Bradford and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Bobby Wagner Returns to Lead the Legion of Boom Back to Glory
Wagner was part of the Legion of Boom in the early 2010s when the Seahawk’s secondary dominated the league in defensive stats. The LOB ultimately helped the team win Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014. Linebacker Wagner was part of the elite unit but, in 2022, signed a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams worth up to $65 million. Following that season, he was named second-team All-Pro for the second year in a row. Fortunately for Seattle, the Rams released him on February 23, 2023, and the Seahawks re-signed him to a one-year deal.
Wagner is returning as a mentor to the newer players on defense, but he won’t be on the sidelines. He expects to have the green dot on his helmet as the defensive on-field play caller. His 140 tackles, a career-high six sacks, two interceptions, and ten tackles for loss show that he’ll lead the defense on the field for another season.
