College Football Week 9 2023 Preview

College Football Week 9 2023 Preview

College Football Week 9 2023 Preview. So much for the Michigan State rivalry. There was no contest at all. The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines annihilated the Michigan State Spartans 49-0.

Virginia’s upset against No. 10 North Carolina, 31-27, was a more exciting watch. The undefeated Tar Heels were 23-point favorites against the Cavaliers, who had a 1-5 record.

Teams with the No. 10 ranking have lost the last four games, and the losses were all to underdogs. Penn State will be a little nervous this week as they suffered their first loss against Ohio State and have been dropped to the dreaded No. 10 spot. Does anyone think the 32.5-point underdogs can mount that big of an upset?

Week 9 Top 25 Ranked Schedule

We’re already in Week 9 but only have two ranked matchups to bet on. No. 6 Oklahoma will visit Kansas for a Big 12 rivalry, with the Sooners only 10-point favorites. No. 11 Oregon State has an even closer matchup when they visit Arizona this Saturday.

Saturday, October 28

  • 5 Washington (-26.5, 59.5) at Stanford

  • 8 Oregon (-7, 49) at No. 13 Utah
  • 10 Penn State (-32.5, 44.5) vs. Indiana
  • 11 Oregon State (-3.5, 56.5) at Arizona
  • 12 Ole Miss (-25.5, 63.5) vs. Vanderbilt
  • 14 Notre Dame (-19.5, 45.5) vs. Pitt

No. 6 Oklahoma Visits Their Big 12 Rival, Kansas

The undefeated Sooners barely got past unranked UCF (3-4) at home in Week 8, 31-29. Kansas (5-2) might have home team advantage but have not beaten Oklahoma since 1997. That’s 18 straight losses against the Sooners. This might be their last chance since OU is moving to the SEC next season.

It won’t be easy for Kansas. Oklahoma’s quarterback has thrown for 2,131 yards and 19 touchdowns, with only three interceptions. And he has four wide receivers to choose from, each with over 300 yards. Oklahoma averages 328.6 passing yards, while Kansas’ strength is on the ground, averaging 212 yards per game.

Don’t expect the Jay Hawks to win, but they will probably keep the Sooners from covering.

Oregon Ducks Face a Tough Utah Utes Defense

Between these two teams, they have won the last four Pac-12 championships. Utah is coming off a close win (34-32) in Week 8, but they were underdogs and on the road when defeating USC. Oregon had a decisive victory against Washington State, 38-24. The Utes might have an 18-game winning streak at home, but the Ducks are the favorites.

Utah’s quarterback Bryson Barnes only has a 58.4% completion rate and only reached the 200-yard mark in passing last week. As long as Oregon’s defense can put pressure on his air game, they should win and cover. But keep your limits in. Utah can surprise you.

Arizona is Making No. 11 Oregon State Nervous

The Arizona Wildcats are 4-3 but have greatly improved in the last three weeks. While double-digit underdogs in Weeks 5 and 6, they narrowly lost to Washington 31-24 and then even closer to USC (43-41 OT). In Week 7, they demolished then No. 19 Washington State, 44-6 on the road.

Their quarterback is a big part of their improvement. Freshman Noah Fifita completed 34 of 43 passing attempts for 342 yards. The Wildcats rushed for 174 yards to get all five of their touchdowns. The other part of their success was the improved defense, which kept the Cougars to only 35 rushing yards.

Oregon State is 6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS, while Arizona is 4-3 SU, 6-1 ATS. Both teams cover the spread well, but the Wildcats seem to be on the rise, which tells me they’ll cover and possibly even win this one. Keep your limits in because this could be the game of the week.

Louisville’s Offense Against Duke’s Defense

No. 18 Louisville will focus on their air game as quarterback Jack Plummer has 1,901 passing yards this season, completing 63.5% of his passes for 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Their offense ranks 28th in the FBS with 34.1 points per game, while Duke is 61st with 29.6 points per game. However, the Blue Devils’ defense ranks 24, allowing only 315.9 points per game.

The big question is whether Duke’s quarterback Riley Leonard’s ankle injury is healed well enough for him to play. If he’s out, the Cardinals can win and cover. But so far, there’s been no update on his status, so keep your limits in until then.
