College Football Week 8 2023 Preview. Week 7’s game of the week was between Washington and Oregon, with both of their quarterbacks posting solid performances. Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. threw for 302 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in their comeback win. Oregon’s Bo Nix threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns. Penix has jumped ahead of Nix to lead in the Heisman campaign.

Big Ten East Rivals Are the Top Game of the Week
This sounds like it could be an exciting nail-biter until you discover that Penn State hasn’t beaten Ohio State since 2016. And Nittany Lions’ coach, James Franklin, is 1-8 against the Buckeyes.
Penn State has been crushing its opponents by an average of 36.3 points, but none of those teams were comparable to Ohio State. This will be their first big test.
Quarterbacks Drew Allar (Penn State) and Kyle McCord (Ohio State) have similar stats, and neither is making mistakes. Both teams have strong defense, with the Nittany Lions posting the better stat in scoring defense (8.0 ppg. vs. the Buckeyes 9.7 ppg.). Ohio State should win and cover the spread.
Duke Blue Devils Hope to Break Florida State’s Winning Streak
Quarterback Riley Leonard left the field with an ankle injury in Duke’s loss to Notre Dame on Sept. 30th. Whether he will return for their game against the Seminoles is still questionable. Florida State’s quarterback Jordan Travis injured his non-throwing hand in last week’s game against Syracuse. But he returned in the third quarter after an evaluation. They are now 6-0 for the first time since 2015.
The Blue Devils won their last game without Leonard, but they only completed four passes, none in the second half. They have the top-scoring defense in the ACC, but that won’t be enough to beat the Seminoles. They’ll need Leonard to have any hope of breaking Florida State’s 19-0 winning streak against Duke.
Keep an eye on the spread and news of Leonard’s health status. They are connected.
Two Inconsistent Offenses Meet in Alabama
The Crimson Tide have a firm grasp of the SEC West. The Volunteers aren’t as lucky in the SEC East. Tennessee’s quarterback, Joe Milton, is struggling to prove himself, and the fans have lost their patience with him. They want him replaced by Nico Iamaleava.
If Milton plays against Bama, it could be a do-or-die situation for him. His defense has been good enough to win games even when he’s playing poorly, but can it cripple the Tide’s offense enough to win?
Alabama’s offense has struggled, only scoring more than 30 points once since week 1. Their offensive line is questionable, but they should still win the game. Don’t be surprised if they can’t cover the spread, though.
Loser Will Miss the Playoffs
The Utah Utes hold the No. 14 position even though quarterback Cameron Rising and offensive star Brant Kuithe have not played this season. Severe knee injuries have sidelined both.
Reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams has been playing for the USC Trojans but was manhandled by Notre Dame’s defense last week, which caused three interceptions and six sacks. They won’t get a break against Utah, which has the most physical defense in the Pac-12.
Without Rising, Utah’s passing game is stuck in neutral. They rushed for over 300 yards in their 34-14 win over Cal. Maybe that’s why No. 18 USC is the 5.5-point favorite in this one. Don’t underestimate coach Lincoln Riley’s ability to lose the game due to poor decisions. They won’t cover or beat Utah on Saturday.
