NFL Football Week 8 2023 Preview

NFL Football Week 8 2023 Preview. Every team will play this weekend, so if you’re a bookie, all your players will have something to bet on. Seven games have a spread of three points or less. However, last week saw some fantastic upsets of wider spreads. Play it smart and keep your limits in this week.

  • Las Vegas Raiders at Detroit Lions (-8.5, 45.5)

The Lions Get a Rare Monday Night Game at Home

Detroit will host its first Monday Night Football game in over five years. The fans at Ford Field will probably be the loudest in the NFL that week. In their last eight home games, they are 7-1 ATS. I would be a little worried about the lambasting they took last game against the Ravens 38-6, but the Raiders didn’t do much better against the Bears 12-30.

The Lions are fourth in the NFL in offense and passing and tenth in rushing. The Raiders are much lower on the list. The best they have is 16th in passing. But their biggest issue arguably is turnovers. They had three against the Bears, and in the last 15 games, they have only won one turnover.

Look to the Lions to regain their stride to win and cover.

The Colts and Saints Could Have the Tightest Matchup of the Week

The Saints were hoping for a better year after acquiring quarterback Derek Carr. They are 17th in the NFL for average yards per game (326) and 21st for points scored (19). But they are going up against a defense that is 29th in the NFL in points allowed (27.3 PPG), which should help considerably.

The Colts’ starting quarterback, Anthony Richardson, is out for the rest of the season, replaced by backup Gardner Minshew. He led Indianapolis to score 38 points against the Browns last week, who have one of the best defenses in the league. Minshew will be going against another stingy defense, but they’ll be home against the Saints, which might be the deciding factor in this game. If their defense can improve, the Colts can win and cover, but keep your limits in just in case.

Miami at Home Has a History of Big Wins

Yes, the high-powered Dolphins got beat last week by the Eagles and were held to only 17 points (31-17), but at home, they’re a different animal. At Hard Rock Stadium, they are 3-0 ATS and win by an average 10.7 ppg. Do you think that’s why they’re favored by 9.5 points?

While the Dolphins are coming off a loss against one of the top teams, the Patriots are coming off a win against the Bills. They were eight-point underdogs and won 29-25.  Almost all of their players made it to Wednesday’s practice. One of those is Josh Uche, one of the only pass rushers fast enough to get to Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa, who gets the ball out more quickly than any quarterback in the NFL.

Watch the Patriots find a way to cover against the Dolphins.

The Jaguars Visit Steel Town

This promises to be a close one, as the Steelers had one of their best games against the Rams, winning 24-17, and Jacksonville will be well-rested after playing on Thursday night instead of Sunday.

After a slow start to the season, where they lost their first two matches, the Jaguars have a five-game winning streak. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence keeps improving as the team scored at least 23 points in their last four games and averaged 34 points in their previous two games. But they are going up against a strong Steelers defensive front. The Jaguars will continue their pace of improving their offense and win this one by more than two points.
