NFL Football Week 5 2023 Preview

NFL Football Week 5 2023 Preview. Week 5 is the first BYE week, with the Browns, Chargers, Seahawks, and Buccaneers getting a week off. But don’t worry. There’s plenty of action to keep every betting sports fan satisfied.

Week 5 Schedule and Spreads

The Jaguars will have their second game in a row in London. This week, it will be against the red-hot Bills. Last week, Buffalo crushed the high-scoring Dolphins 48-20. They’re only 5.5-point favorites, which looks like a bargain to me. Keep your limits in for this game. There might be a lot of takers.

Thursday, October 5

  • Chicago Bears vs. Washington Commanders (-6.5, 45)

Sunday, October 8

  • Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills (-5.5, 48)
  • New Orleans Saints vs. New England Patriots (-1.5, 39)
  • Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts (-1.5, 42)
  • Baltimore Ravens (-4.5, 40) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Carolina Panthers vs. Detroit Lions (-8.5, 43.5)
  • Houston Texans vs. Atlanta Falcons (-1.5, 41)
  • New York Giants vs. Miami Dolphins (-10.5, 49.5)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (-3, 42.5) vs. Arizona Cardinals
  • Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5, 47) vs. Los Angeles Rams
  • New York Jets vs. Denver Broncos (-2.5, 40.5)
  • Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5, 52.5) vs. Minnesota Vikings
  • Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers (-3.5, 45)

Monday, October 9

  • Green Bay Packers (-1.5, 43.5) vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Can the Cowboys Take Down the Mighty 49ers?

Dallas has had a great season except for an uncharacteristic loss against the Cardinals. Their blowout win against the Patriots in Week 3 sets them up for this weekend’s game against San Francisco. Is it a bad omen that the 49ers are coming off an equally big win against the Cardinals – the only team to beat Dallas so far?

It doesn’t help that the Cowboys lost to the 49ers in the NFC playoffs for the last two seasons, 23-17 and 19-12. Both teams are averaging higher scores this season: San Francisco (31.3 ppg) and Dallas (31.0 ppg). And both of their defenses are good, making it challenging to pick the winner.

San Francisco is home for the third straight game, which should give them the advantage on this one, but it will be close. They are 3-1 ATS and should be able to cover against Dallas.

The Chiefs are Beatable

The Vikings may only be 1-3, but each of their losses were competitive. Their biggest defeat was against the Eagles in Week 2 (28-34). The Chiefs haven’t been the dominant team that was expected this year. Aside from their trashing of the winless Bears, all their games have been close.

Minnesota’s quarterback, Kirk Cousins, is third in the league in passing with 1,214 yards. The Chiefs’ defense allowed the Jets’ quarterback, Zack Wilson, to throw for 245 yards last week. The Vikings are due for an upset win, but Patrick Mahomes has a way of squeaking out the win when he needs it. I see the Chiefs winning, but it’ll be close.

Is This a Turning Point for the Jets?

New York had a stellar game against the Chiefs in Week 4. The Jets could have won that one if the controversial defensive holding call wasn’t made. Their defense was so good that Mahomes looked average for most of the game. On the other side of the ball, Zack Wilson had one of his best games so far.

The Broncos rallied from behind to beat the Bears for their only win of the season. That’s not saying much. Denver is also 0-3-1 ATS, while New York is 2-2 ATS. Unless Zack Wilson takes two steps back, they should be able to win this one. Watch for any line movement.

Two Teams Looking to Rebound

The winless Chicago Bears visit the 2-2 Washington Commanders this Thursday. Washington lost a heartbreaker in overtime against Philadelphia 34-31 after having a 10-point lead in the second quarter. It was their second straight loss. Quarterback Sam Howell passed for 290 yards and no interceptions. He threw a 10-yard touchdown pass on the final play of regulation to force overtime.

Chicago is in the midst of their longest losing streak on record, currently at 14 games. They had a 21-point lead in their most recent match against Denver before losing 28-31. Quarterback Justin Field set career highs of 335 yards and four touchdown passes. He completed his first 16 pass attempts of the game. Even with Field’s accomplishments, it doesn’t look like the Bears will end their streak in Week 5 – or cover the spread. Since last season, they’ve had the worst 2-8 ATS on the road.
