Canadian MPs Look at Sports Betting Legalization
The sports betting and per head industry are evolving before the public’s eyes. While legalization looms closer across the United States, Canadian MPs are beginning to lobby for sports betting legalization across the country.
Recently, several states of the US have already legalized sports betting including: Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, West Virginia, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
While non-legal states keep a close eye on legal sports betting states for success, Canadian members of parliament have also been taking diligent notes.

It’s clear that the Canadian market is rapidly growing to become a major player throughout the sports betting industry.
According to recent statements to the press, Canadian MPs are looking to be a key player in the movement of legalization, stating, “there’s absolutely no reason not to be.” The platform of legalizing sports betting in Canada focuses on curbing the black market and providing revenue to deal with gambling addiction.
In 2016, an earlier effort to legalize single-game sports betting was held and ultimately failed with a 156-133 vote.
It’s estimated the the sports betting industry is a $10 Billion market in Canada annually. Brian Masse, a Canadian member of parliament, stated that the vote was a “huge missed opportunity…”, forfeiting hundreds of additional jobs throughout his province and municipality.
