March Madness - Teams to Follow in Conference Tournaments

March Madness – Teams to Follow in Conference Tournaments

March Madness – Teams to Follow in Conference Tournaments. Even though Selection Sunday isn’t until Sunday, March 17, we’ve already unofficially begun March Madness. All 32 NCAA Men’s College basketball conferences have started, are in the middle of, or have just finished their conference tournaments. Betting on March Madness should be in full swing during these end-of-season tournaments.

The 32 winners get an automatic invitation to the NCAA tournament (automatic bid). The four lowest-tiered winners will compete in the First Four on March 19th and 20th with the four lowest-tiered at-large bids. There are 36 teams selected by the selection committee on Selection Sunday.

Conference Tournaments with the Most Action

If your players want to warm up on some March Madness action, get them to follow these tournaments to give them a better idea of what to expect after Selection Sunday.

ACC Tournament

North Carolina won the regular season conference title when they defeated Duke last weekend, but Duke still has better odds to win the ACC tournament. Outside of those two teams, the odds drop dramatically. Bubble teams Wake Forest and Virginia will have to bring their A games if they want to be invited to the Big Dance.

Team                         Odds to win ACC Tournament

Duke                          +165

North Carolina              +175

Clemson                     +800

Wake Forest                +900

Pittsburgh                   +1100

Big East Tournament

UConn may have won the national championship five times in the last 25 years, but this is the only time they’ve won the conference regular season in that period. How will that affect their run this year? Does winning this tournament make a difference in their NCAA tournament invitation?

They are the favorites to win the Big East tournament, but Marquette may challenge them depending on the health of their star point guard, Tyler Kolek. Because of an injury, he missed the last few games of the regular season.

Team                         Odds to win Big East Tournament

UConn                        +140

Creighton                    +375

Marquette                   +500

St. John’s                    +900

Big Ten Tournament

Purdue won the regular season title and is the heavy tournament favorite. Player of the Year Zack Edey hopes to lead this team deep into the NCAA tournament this year. However, the team to keep your eye on is Michigan State, which is on the bubble and will try to impress the selection committee so they can be in the NCAA tournament for the 26th year in a row.

Team                         Odds to win Big Ten Tournament

Purdue                       +100

Illinois                         +280

Nebraska                    +750

Michigan State             +1100

Big 12 Tournament

There is a lot of movement in the Big 12, as BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are new to the conference. Oklahoma and Texas are in their final seasons in the Big 12 before they move on to the SEC. Texas was the tournament winner last year, but this year has the No. 7 seed.

Team                         Odds to win Big 12 Tournament

Houston                      -140

Iowa State                   +300

Baylor                        +900

Kansas                       +1100

Mountain West Tournament

This is a much tighter conference than most. Utah State won the regular season title in their final game, but Nevada and Boise State are right behind them. UNLV won 10 of their final 12 games to climb near the top of the standings, but they might have to win it all to get an NCAA Tournament invite.

Team                         Odds to win Mountain West Tournament

San Diego State           +290

Utah State                   +440

Nevada                       +450

UNLV                         +500

Pac-12 Tournament

Arizona hasn’t lost more than one game in a row since coach Tommy Lloyd took over in 2022. They won the regular season and, along with second-place finishers Washington State, are the only two teams guaranteed an at-large spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Team                         Odds to win Pac-12 Tournament

Arizona                       -155

Colorado                     +450

Washington State         +600

Oregon                       +1100

SEC Tournament

The Tennessee Volunteers may have won the regular season but have serious competition in winning the conference tournament. South Carolina, Auburn, Kentucky, and Alabama all finished with a 13-5 in-conference record. This might be the most exciting tournament to watch (and bet on) this week.

Team                         Odds to win SEC Tournament

Tennessee                  +145

Auburn                       +270

Kentucky                     +430

Alabama                     +430
