Jacksonville Jaguars 2023 Preview

Jacksonville Jaguars 2023 Preview. This is a team that finished with only three wins in the 2021 season (3-14) under coach Urban Meyer and then bounced back with a 9-8 record a year later and won a playoff game under head coach Doug Pederson. The Jaguars are on a steep trajectory of improvement and will continue to surprise and impress their fans and critics.

Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Regular Season Schedule

The Jaguars have the 10th easiest schedule in the NFL going into the 2023 season. That’s no surprise since they’re the best team in what’s probably the easiest division in the AFC. But they will have to face a few of the top teams, including the Chiefs, Bills, 49ers, Bengals, and Ravens.

  • Week 1 at Indianapolis Colts
  • Week 2 vs. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Week 3 vs. Houston Texans
  • Week 4 vs. Atlanta Falcons (NFL London Games 2023)
  • Week 5 at Buffalo Bills
  • Week 6 vs. Indianapolis Colts
  • Week 7 at New Orleans Saints (Thursday Night Football)
  • Week 8 at Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Week 9 Bye
  • Week 10 vs. San Francisco 49ers
  • Week 11 vs. Tennessee Titans
  • Week 12 at Houston Texans
  • Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 14 at Cleveland Browns
  • Week 15 vs. Baltimore Ravens
  • Week 16 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers
  • Week 18 at Tennessee Titans

Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 Draft. After a rough rookie season in 2021, the quarterback was able to show off his talents and abilities last year when the Jaguars won their first game of the playoffs in one of the biggest comebacks in NFL history. They were down 27-0 and then beat the Chargers 31-30. They lost to the Chiefs 20-27 in the divisional round.

Lawrence is just outside the top five contenders for the 2023 NFL MVP award but keep an eye on this list as the season progresses.

Patrick Holmes:        +650

Joe Burrow:              +750

Josh Allen:                +750

Jalen Hurts:              +1200

Justin Herbert:         +1500

Trevor Lawrence:     +1600

In 2022, Lawrence completed 387 of 584 passes for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He set a franchise record for the most completions in a season and tied for the most touchdowns. Along with Allen and Burrow, Lawrence is the only player to make at least 25 touchdown passes and five rushing TDs.

In 2021, as a rookie, he threw for 12 touchdowns with 17 interceptions.

Jacksonville’s Offseason improvements

They lost tackle Jawaan Taylor to Kansas City as a free agent but were able to draft Anton Harrison as the 27th pick overall. As part of the Sooners in 2022, he surrendered only nine total pressures and one sack all season.

Running back Travis Etienne struggled with short-yardage or goal-line plays last year. To gain improvement in those situations, the Jaguars drafted Tank Bigsby 88th overall. Last year, he earned 740 of his 976 rushing yards after initial contact and forced 61 missed tackles.

They’ve also added veteran wide receiver Calvin Ridley from Atlanta Falcons to their roster, which should take this offense to the next level as long as the young members on the offensive line can play their parts well and give Lawrence the time he needs to use that powerful arm.

Probably their biggest move was to re-sign tight end Evan Engram, who had 73 receptions for 766 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns in 2022.

Tennessee Titans        +375

Indianapolis Colts       +550

The Jaguars have the best over/under in their division with 9.5 wins, which shows confidence in their new coach and off-season accomplishments.

  • Odds to Win the AFC South: -165
  • Odds to Win the AFC Conference: +1500
  • Odds to Win the Super Bowl: +2500 (they have yet to make a Super Bowl appearance)
