NCAA Basketball Championship Preview

NCAA Basketball Championship Preview. There were no surprises or upsets in Saturday’s Final Four games. The No. 1 seeds won by comfortable margins and will meet Monday night for the championship game. It’s fitting that the top two teams of the season should fight it out for top spot. Get ready for all of the bets and plays to go along with a powerhouse game.

Odds to Win the Championship

Purdue Boilermakers vs. UConn Huskies (-6, 147.5)

79% of the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, and Final Four went under the total. That sounds like a trend to me. Look to this final game going under as well, so be prepared with limits if needed, or at least your layoff account.

Purdue is making only their second appearance in the championship game, having lost the first time back in 1969. This will be the fifth time for the Huskies, who have won every time they’ve played in this final game. If they win, it will be the first time a team has won back-to-back championships since Florida did in 2006-07. Or will Purdue be able to make the ultimate comeback after losing to No. 16 seed Farleigh Dickinson in the First Round last year?

Purdue Boilermakers

In their Final Four matchup, the Boilermakers gained the edge in the second half to end the magical run of the NC State Wolfpack, who had beaten the odds up until this final game. Purdue continued their tournament dominance by beating the Wolfpack 63-50.

The Boilermakers have stood out in this tournament so far but did have a difficult time against Tennessee in the Elite Eight round. Zack Edey had to put on his best show by netting 40 points in a 72-66 win.

In the Final Four game, Purdue kept NC State’s DJ Burns to only eight points and one rebound. But they had their own problems as Braden Smith, Purdue’s second-leading scorer, managed only three points in the entire game. He played an excellent defensive game but will have to increase his offensive productivity to have a hope of beating the Huskies.

UConn Huskies

The Huskies continued their trend of winning each game of the tournament by double digits, dispatching the Alabama Crimson Tide 86-72. They turned it up late in the game to leave no doubt who the better team was. All of their starters scored at least 12 points in that game.

UConn has dominated each game of the tournament and doesn’t look to be surprised by Purdue. They even have a solution for the 7-foot-4 Zack Edey. Donovan Clingan stands at 7-foot-2.

Even though the Huskies have covered the spread in the last six games and 14 of their previous 16 games, I don’t think they’ll be able to keep that streak going against the Boilermakers. This game will be much tighter, as they’ll be more evenly matched than the teams they’ve been playing against. But I still don’t see Purdue getting the better of UConn because, while the Boilermakers have Edey, the Huskies have Stephon Castle, Cam Spencer, Alex Karaban, and Tristen Newton.

The Huskies are a well-rounded, more complete team. They are more efficient offensively and defensively than Purdue and are bigger and more athletic on the perimeter. Purdue might make it interesting, but I don’t see them finding a solution to the Huskies.
