Lions vs Panthers Prediction: Week 4 Analysis & Pick

Detroit Lions vs Carolina Panthers Prediction – NFC Battle

Lions vs Panthers Game Analysis: Paper vs Reality

The Detroit Lions are looking for their first road win of the season as they visit Carolina to take on the Panthers for Sunday Night Football in Week 4. The game kicks off at 8:20 pm on October 4.

Both are NFC teams, with the Lions tied for second in the North Division with a 2-1 record, while somehow the Panthers lead the South Division with a 1-2 record. Actually, the Panthers are in a three-way tie for first, while the Buccaneers sit in the basement with a 0-3 record.

While the Lions look good on paper, the Panthers are actually playing better than their record suggests. Here at PayPerHead, you’ll find our Lions vs Panthers prediction and everything you need to know ahead of this game.

Detroit Lions Recent Scores: Consistent Offense

Detroit’s Week 1 win against the Saints was a roller coaster ride of changing leads, missed field goals, overtime and missed 2-point conversions. The Lions’ defense held strong at the end to prevent the Saints from scoring on their final possession.

The Lions’ offense stayed consistent in all three weeks, but their defense couldn’t contain the Bills in Week 2. The Bills scored 2 TDs in the opening quarter, while the Lions scored none. The teams were pretty even for the next 2 quarters, and the Lions tried to catch up in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.

The Lions beat the Jets in Week 3, but it was New York’s Jahmyr Gibbs who stole the spotlight, being the first player in NFL history to accomplish at least 300 yards, four rushing touchdowns, 150 yards receiving and two touchdown receptions through three games.

  • Week 1: vs Saints 31-30 (win)
  • Week 2: at Bills 31-41 (loss)
  • Week 3: vs Jets 31-24 (win)

Carolina Panthers Recent Scores: Mistakes Were Made

The Panthers visited the Bears for their season opener and were crushed 59-37 in the highest-scoring season opener in NFL history. RB D’Andre Swift rushed for 124 yards on 18 carries, which included a 61-yard touchdown run in the second half. Their offense looked great, but the defense was no match for Chicago’s QB Caleb Williams.

Carolina’s offense continued to hum along in Week 2 against the Falcons, but this time, the defense was equally impressive, as they allowed only 286 yards, including 72 rushing yards by Bijan Robinson.

In Week 3, the Panthers took an 18-13 lead with 4:25 remaining, but they couldn’t hold on to it as Cleveland regained the lead. The Panthers made their last offensive drive, and with 9 seconds remaining, Bryce Young threw his second turnover of the game to end their chances of a comeback.

  • Week 1: vs Bears 37-59 (loss)
  • Week 2: at Falcons 34-3 (win)
  • Week 3: at Browns 18-21 (loss)

Lions vs Panthers History: 27 Years Long

These teams have played each other only 12 times since their first meeting in 1999. Carolina has won 8 of those. The Panthers have an excellent home record, 6-1. Their last three meetings:

  • Oct 8, 2023: Panthers 24 – 42 Lions
  • Dec 24, 2022: Lions 23 – 37 Panthers
  • Nov 22, 2020: Lions 0 – 20 Panthers

Lions vs Panthers Prediction: Panthers are Beat Up

The Sunday night spotlight returns to the Carolina Panthers after 10 years. Unfortunately, they’re banged up on both sides of the ball, going up against a strong Detroit team, which is a 3.5-point favorite.

Even QB Bryce Young is sore after taking a beating against the Browns last Sunday. With the Lions’ defense having the eighth-best pressure rate and the third-most blitzes, I don’t see Carolina’s offense getting many points.

Our Lions vs Panthers prediction is a 25-18 Detroit win. Follow us on social media to stay tuned this NFL season.
