Ghana has had to work with a new coach as of April 2026, just 70 days before the opening match. That didn’t give him much time to work with this team, but the 73-year-old Portuguese manager, Carlos Queiroz, has decades of international experience. His philosophy is disciplined defense first.
Ghana has a blend of experienced veterans (Jordan Ayew and Tariq Lamptey) and emerging stars (like playmaker Mohammed Kudus who will not be playing).

The Black Stars had a dominant qualifying campaign by focusing on maintaining a sturdy defense while watching for offensive opportunities. They only allowed 0.6 goals per game during that time.
Kudus scored the winning goal in the 1-0 victory against Comoros, which guaranteed Ghana’s place in the 2026 World Cup. Unfortunately, the young playmaker will miss the entire tournament due to a hamstring relapse he suffered during training in April.

This is England’s most experienced squad, with attacking options like Kane, Saka, Bellingham, Gordon, Madueke, and Rashford. 22 of their players have won a trophy since the start of the 2024-25 season. Kane has had his best season so far. Coach Thomas Tuchel continues to upset and surprise critics by having a formula more complex than simply selecting the 26 most talented players.
