The Spurs were among the top teams in the regular series, but the playoffs can be cruel to inexperienced players. This is Victor Wembanyama’s first NBA playoffs, as with other members of his squad.

They got their first test against the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round, their inexperience showing as they lost Game 2. In the next series, they faced a tougher foe, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who beat them in Game 1. The Spurs quickly regrouped and beat the Wolves 133-95 in Game 2. Minnesota came back to win in Game 4 to tie the series, much like we have now, 2-2.

The next two games were decisive wins for the Spurs, as they gained crucial playoff experience, getting them ready for this series against a much tougher opponent.

Oklahoma City Thunder Recent Scores

The Thunder were underdogs in Game 3, as the Spurs were favored by 1.5 points. That’s the first time they’ve been underdogs in the playoffs since Game 6 of the 2024 Western Conference semifinals against the Dallas Mavericks. They pulled through and beat the Spurs, but it showed that there is some uncertainty about their ability to win this series.

With the Spurs taking double overtime to win Game 1 and then losing the next two games, it looked like the Thunder had this series well in hand. But then the Spurs changed tactics in Game 4, putting the brakes on the Thunder’s offence, and won decisively.

Spurs vs Thunder Prediction: Which Leader Will Lead?

The Spurs surprised the Thunder in Game 4 with their switch to defense-heavy play. But the Thunder has been impressive at learning from their losses and swiftly changing strategy. The Spurs won’t be able to pull that off successfully again, at least not in Game 5 in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder are 5.5-point favorites because it’s really hard to beat these guys twice in a row, especially in OKC. What do the Spurs have to do to win? Wemby has to have another stellar game as he did in Game 1 (41 points, 24 rebounds) and Game 4 (33 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks). Because when he’s playing that well, he pulls his team up with him.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander does the same for the Thunder. He was largely contained in Games 1 and 4, but, like Oklahoma City, it’s hard to hold him back for more than one game in a row. He should burst through in Game 5 to lead the Thunder into victory.
