New York took the first game of the series, 105-95, increasing their winning streak to 12 games. Their captain, Jalen Brunson, scored 30 points, 13 of those in the fourth. San Antonio, as a team, only scored 19 points in the quarter. After a grueling series against the Thunder, the Spurs couldn’t keep the pace with the rested Knicks.
New York was trailing by 14 points in the second half, then came back to tie it up by the end of the third, with a late 11-0 run led by Brunson.
Victor Wembanyama led the scoring for the Spurs with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks, but he was only 6 for 21 in his first finals game. Perhaps he was feeling the pressure.
