The Hawks finished the regular season with a 6-4 record, losing their last game to the Miami Heat in an offensive frenzy, 143-117. If the Hawks won, they would have made the No. 5 seed going into the playoffs, but they chose to rest and focus on health. They sat Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, CJ McCollum, Jalen Johnson, Jonatha Kuminga, Onyeka Okongwu and others.

New York Knicks Recent Scores

The Knicks also finished the regular season with a 6-4 record and lost their last game. They were already locked into the No. 3 seed in the East, so they sat several of their starters. But it was a big game for Charlotte, which won 110-96 and clinched the No. 9 seed.

Playing at home doesn’t seem to have an advantage in this series, as they’ve each played at home twice with one win and one loss.

The Hawks were down 106-87 with a little over 4 minutes left in the game when they rallied for 11 straight points, cutting the deficit to 106-98. That’s as close as they got, but coach Quin Snyder was proud of their attempt, “…it was just too little, too late.”
  • Game 2, April 20: Knicks 106 – 107 Hawks (at New York). This thriller came down to the wire as Atlanta’s CJ McCollum led a late comeback, but then missed 2 free throws with 5.6 seconds remaining in the game. Luckily, time expired before the Knicks could score.
  • Game 3, April 23: Knicks 108 – 109 Hawks (at Atlanta). The Hawks led for most of the game, starting with 33-21 at the end of the first quarter. Atlanta was well ahead in the 2nd quarter before the Knicks made a 12-2 run to close the first half with Atlanta leading 58-50. The Hawks held on.
  • Game 4: April 25: Knicks 114 – 98 Hawks (at Atlanta). The Knicks came back hard with Karl-Anthony Towns achieving his first postseason triple-double, 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists. He’s only the fourth Knicks player to do that. Once the Knicks took the lead halfway through the first quarter, they never gave it up.

Both of Atlanta’s wins were one-point games. Both of New York’s wins were at least 10-point spreads. The Knicks are favored by 6.5 points in Game 5. If the Knicks win, it will be by double digits. However, it is possible for the Hawks to steal another one at MSG if their top players have exceptional games and all the players contribute.
