Cowboys vs Seahawks Game Analysis and Preview
The defending-champion Seattle Seahawks will host the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, August 15, for their first preseason game with us at PayPerHead.
Dallas’ head coach, Brian Schottenheimer (a former Seattle coach), said starters won’t see much action in the preseason. Top players will mostly sit.
Head coach Mike Macdonald is entering his third season with the Seahawks, and he also limits his starters’ playing time in the preseason to evaluate new players and backups.
Dallas Cowboys Recent Scores and Updates
The Cowboys finished the 2025 season second in the NFC East, behind the Philadelphia Eagles. Their record was 7-9-1, improving on their 7-10 record of 2024, but missing the playoffs for the second straight season.
They had the second-best offense in the league with George Pickens, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Javonte Williams, and one of the best special teams units. However, they also had the worst defense in points and yards allowed per game.
Their defensive coordinator, Christian Parker, is starting to look like one of the brightest young minds in football. He was praised in the Cowboys’ efforts against the LA Rams during joint practice earlier in the week. The defense passed its first test.
Seattle Seahawks Recent Scores and Updates
The Seahawks finished the 2025 regular season with a franchise-best 14-3 record. They won the NFC West for the first time since 2020. Seattle won Super Bowl LX by defeating the New England Patriots 29-13. It was their second Super Bowl championship. Their first was in the 2013 season.
The champs haven’t had a joint practice yet. Theirs will be ahead of the second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

Dallas Cowboys vs Seattle Seahawks History
As the teams are both in the NFC, they play each other every 1 to 3 years. Lately, the games have been fairly close with a tied record (5-5) over the last 10 games. Their last game against each other was November 30, 2023, when Dallas beat Seattle 41-35 at home.
There was no joint practice between these two teams, so they will be hitting it cold.

Dallas has greater depth on offense and will have plenty of receivers to evaluate throughout the next three games. The big question throughout the preseason will be if the Cowboys have fixed their defensive issues. For this game, they’ll see whether their defensive line can pressure Seattle to challenge their run game.
Schottenheimer divides his players into four groups for the preseason workload. The higher your status, the more reps you get, which should get the best results against Seattle.
The Cowboys will evaluate QBs Sam Howell and Joe Milton III, while the Seahawks will evaluate Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe. Milroe didn’t see much action last season and is battling for the QB2 spot this year.
