NHL Playoffs Betting: 2021 Stanley Cup

We’re down to the final four in the NHL Playoffs. Here’s an update for pay per head bookies as we break down the remaining squads before your players make NHL playoffs betting wagers on the 2021 Stanley Cup Final

The Stanley Cup playoffs are down to the final four, and like most climbs to hoist Lord Stanley, it’s had that extra something no other professional sport seems to duplicate without injury: pure parity.

The changes to the playoff format due to a shortened 2021 season were supposed to make things easier for division winners. But no division winner remains in the postseason, and each semifinal series is competitive.

The combination makes the NHL playoffs difficult but exciting for those learning how to be a bookie. But to ensure you’re getting the most out of your pay per head players, here’s an update to the latest in the postseason before betting on the NHL Stanley Cup really heats up.

The Shocking Montreal Canadiens

There isn’t a team that captures the unpredictability of the NHL playoffs more than the Canadiens. If it weren’t for changing the format to allow four teams from each division, Montreal wouldn’t even be in the postseason. Now they’re tied 2-2 in a best-of-seven series against the Vegas Knights – one of the most successful expansion franchises in sports’ history.

The Habs are 9-1 in their last 10 and 7-1 in their last eight as an underdog. Timely goaltending can take you far in the NHL playoffs, and 33-year old Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has proven he has plenty left in the tank with a 2.10 goals-against average. If he continues to earn offensive help from right-winger Tyler Toffoli, center Nick Suzuki, and surprising rookie Cole Caufield … bookie software agents beware. Price’s postseason career on the moneyline is a perfect 17-0 when Montreal has scored at least three goals.

The Canadiens have been favored in just three of 15 games this postseason. Use sportsbook software to change moneyline prices if the Habs get by Vegas.

Tampa Bay Lightning Favored to Repeat

Defending champion Tampa Bay has  moved to the top spot in NHL futures. After missing the entire regular season due to hip surgery, Nikita Kucherov has posted 24 points in 15 games, leading the Lightning’s playoff charge. Braydon Point, one of the best centers in the NHL, has also stepped it up.

However, despite their talented squad putting them on top of Stanley Cup odds, PPH sportsbook agents have witnessed a competitive rematch of the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals between the Lightning and the New York Islanders.

The series is tied 2-2. With both teams winning on the road and at home, trends in this series are hard to handicap. Expect bettors to lean on the moneyline favorite before the puck drops because the favorite is 7-3 in their last 10 meetings.

What’s in your  favor? New York ranks 2nd in goals against, and Tampa ranks sixth, making the under 4-1-2 in their last 7 meetings. Bettors tend to mentally focus on high scoring when betting on playoff games, which means unders should help your bottom line.

Other NHL Stanley Cup Bets and Trends

With NHL futures all-but tied up, straight options are where most NHL playoff betting has gone. But PPH sports should promote other NHL playoff wagers as we approach the final:

Puck line

Similar to a run line in baseball, the puck line usually stakes at 1.5 with a moneyline attached to balance action. As the favorite on puck line wagers tends to receive an underdog price (example: -1.5 +175), expect newer hockey betting fans to see that as a line they can’t ignore.

However, that’s a big advantage for bookies.

Amongst the four remaining playoff teams, only the Islanders turned a profit versus the puck line this year. And that’s due largely to bets on them as +1.5 dogs. Bettors should also keep in mind that in a shootout, only one goal is added to the final score, greatly affecting puck line wagers.

Totals Betting

Totals are another wager that bettors should love but are so balanced an agent offering free betting software stands to make a profit. This year the over/under has essentially been 50/50 and that’s with or without overtime.
