The Sports Betting and Per Head Industry is Going All-In For Esports
Just when you thought that Sports Betting couldn’t get any bigger, the industry is looking to potentially double and revolutionize their industry. Currently, the eSports industry is estimated to be worth $900 million, and the sports betting and Pay Per Head industry wants in. PayPerHead.com, the leading sportsbook software company in the industry, is expanding their supported esport titles and making waves in the industry.
“For the past number of years, PayPerHead has been looking at getting involved in sports that goes beyond the traditional scope of sports betting.” Explained Nate Johnson, Product Manager of PayPerHead.com. “While we’re still supporting traditional games like NFL, NBA, and NCAA, we’re looking to expand into an audience that we haven’t seen before.”
The eSports Industry has been growing at an alarming rate. In 2016, the industry was valued at a total revenue of $493 million, then jumping to $655 million in 2017. Many experts are expecting eSports to eclipse over $900 million worth of revenue throughout this past year.
“We’re watching a brand new industry breaking the $1 billion mark at an incredible rate.” commented Johnson. “There’s a clear sense of demand for eSports betting and as the industry leader, Pay Per Head doesn’t want to miss this opportunity.”
In a recent data survey, video games generated an estimated $87 billion in revenue worldwide in 2018. While mainstream eSports currently focuses a few major titles like League of Legends, Overwatch, CS:GO, and Fortnite, the majority of industry revenue originates from these titles.
League of Legends, one of the leading video games in esports, more than 200,000,000 spectators were recorded at the same time.
“Esports events is eclipsing – and at sometimes – towering over traditional sporting events.” Johnson explained. “From own records, we can see a minor portion of the audience placing wagers on large esports events. However, there’s a significant potential for an increase of betting activity.”
