Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins is Out for the Season

Quarterback Cousins tore his right Achilles tendon on Sunday. Although he led the NFL with 18 touchdowns to five interceptions, the Vikings are only 4-4, and that’s only after winning their last three games. If Cousins is a big part of their comeback, his replacement, Jaren Hall, will have a lot of pressure on him to perform. Hall is a 2023 fifth-round pick, making his first career start on Sunday. I’m sure he would have been more comfortable starting when they were 1-4.

Although Atlanta’s quarterback, Desmond Ridder, isn’t injured, the Falcons will start Taylor Heinecke against the Vikings. Ridder was benched at half-time and replaced by Heinecke in the 28-23 loss to Tennessee.

The Falcons are favored by 5 points but are 2-6 ATS. Heinecke is considered underrated by his teammates and fans and could make the difference in covering the spread. But don’t underestimate the Vikings’ defense. I’ll be watching Minnesota’s Hall to see if he’s another Brock Purdy.

The Chargers Have the Offense But Fail to Win

It must be frustrating for the Chargers and their fans to see them get defeated by three points or less in all but one of their losses. Justin Herbert’s fractured finger in Week 4 could be a big part of the issue. It’s on his non-throwing hand, but he says he was always in pain. That might be why his completion rate against the Raiders in Week 4 and the next two weeks was below 60%.

In last week’s win against Chicago, Herbert had a 77.5% completion rate, no interceptions, and three touchdowns. Hopefully, that’s a sign that his finger is no longer bothering him.

The Jets are doing better than the Chargers, but quarterback Zach Wilson isn’t having a stellar year. He only has five passing touchdowns in seven games this season. His defense is responsible for the bulk of their wins. I think Herbert is back and will easily cover the spread in this one.

The Chiefs and Dolphins in Miami

Kansas City has only lost back-to-back games three times since Patrick Mahomes took over as starting quarterback. You have to go back a lot farther than Mahomes to find a time the Chiefs lost three games in a row. But that’s what they’re looking at going into Germany this weekend.

Mahomes is no longer showing flu-like symptoms, and his hand is improving. His non-throwing hand got stepped on in their loss to Denver. The Chiefs will need him in top form as they take on the most productive offense in the NFL.

Miami’s Tyreek Hill will play his old team for the first time since leaving the Chiefs. His 1,014 receiving yards are just shy of the combined output of Kansas City’s top four wide receivers. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been sacked 11 times, the least amount in the league. The Chiefs are second with 28 sacks.

However, Miami’s Achilles Heel is playing against the top teams, which the Chiefs are one of. Add in the neutral playing field in a foreign country, and you have enough variables to make even the most experienced bookie nervous. Keep your limits in!

The Bengals Want to Repeat the Last Meeting with the Bills

These two teams last met in the AFC Divisional round in January 2023. The Bengals won 27-10. Both teams were expected to do at least as well this season as they did in 2022, but they’ve had slow starts. Buffalo has a better record (5-3), but Cincinnati has won three straight, including beating the 49ers 31-17 last week. Joe Burrow and the Bengals are on a smooth climb into success, while Josh Allen and the Bills are still on a roller coaster ride to the top.

Don’t bet on the outcome. Let your players do that. Keep your limits in, and get ready to make a lot of money on this game.
