College Football Week 2 2023 Preview

College Football Week 2 2023 Preview. College football is back for another year of action, excitement, and upsets.

Recap of Top Games

Colorado vs. No. 17 TCU

The most significant upset being talked about is between the Colorado Buffaloes, who were 21-point underdogs against the #17 ranked TCU Horned Frogs. The Buffaloes were able to edge past the Horned Frogs, 45-42. Colorado finished 1-11 last year and hasn’t had a winning season since 2016. New coach Deion Sanders is credited with the team’s turnaround.

TCU dropped out of the ranking, while unranked Colorado has now moved to No. 22. Their odds for their next game have been fluctuating since their big win, so keep your limits in for this team over the next few games. They could be one to watch or just a one-hit-wonder.

No. 9 Clemson vs. Duke

The No. 9 ranked Clemson Tigers were kept to only 7 points against the Duke Blue Devils in a 28-7 loss on the road. They are two very well-coached teams that have a lot of experience because of the amount of returning players, but Clemson was favored by 12.5 points. Their head coach, Dabo Swinney, said before the game, “…openers are probably the hardest game. I don’t care who you play because there are just so many unknowns…”

That was the first time that Duke beat a top-10 team since 1989. It moved them from being unranked to No. 21. Meanwhile, Clemson dropped from No. 9 to No. 25, barely staying ranked – a considerable drop.

No. 5 LSU vs. No. 8 Florida State

The No. 5 LSU Tigers were favored to win against the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles in Week 1 by 2.5 points. The first half of the game was close, with FSU tying it up early in the 3rd quarter at 17. They scored on their three drives to win the game 45-24.

That upset dropped the Tigers from No. 5 to No. 14, while Florida State rose from No. 8 to No. 4.

No. 21 North Carolina vs. South Carolina

The North Carolina Tar Heels were favored to win this game by 2.5 points, but they blasted the South Carolina Gamecocks 31-17. Even though they didn’t cover the total of 64.5 points, the Tar Heels moved up four slots in the rankings.

No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan remained at the same rankings, but most other teams shifted one or two positions.

Highlights of Week 2

No. 11 Texas at No. 3 Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide will host the Texas Longhorns in what should be a big win for the Tide, favored by 7.5 points. Alabama scored 14 points in each quarter in their 56-7 Week 1 win over Middle Tennessee. They have covered the spread an amazing 14-5-1 in their last 20 Saturday home games. They covered last week’s, too, which was at -39.5.

Texas didn’t fair as well against Rice in Week 1. They won 37-10 but didn’t cover their 35.5-point spread.

Nebraska at No. 22 Colorado

After the upset game against TCU in Week 1, there was an instant reaction, bringing the odds in Colorado’s favor for the next game against Nebraska to -5 at some sportsbooks. As money came in on Colorado, the line dropped down. Make sure you monitor the lines right up until game time as they could keep shifting.
