Baltimore Ravens 2023 Preview

Baltimore Ravens 2023 Preview. The Ravens will take on one of the toughest teams in the league in their first game. Luckily, it will be a preseason game against the Eagles. They’ll have a couple of easier games to contend with (but most teams are easy after the Eagles) before starting the season against the Houston Texans. The Bengals will be their first true test in Week 2 as they will be fighting them for playoff standings and need to beat them at least once this season to have a chance at leading the NFC North.

Baltimore Raven’s Sports Betting Predictions

Quarterback Lamar Jackson just resigned with a $260M five-year deal. With that blockbuster contract, Baltimore wanted to ensure they had stellar receivers for him to target. They signed veteran wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor. In the Draft, their first pick was WR Zay Flowers.

The only variable that they can’t adjust for is Jackson’s health. Getting to and being successful in the playoffs hinges on him staying healthy. Lamar has missed the end of the last two seasons due to injury – ankle in 2021 and knee in 2022. If he can stay healthy and the receiving corps can hit their potential, the Ravens might be able to put a dent in the opposing teams in Weeks 15 and 16. The betting lines show some belief in the Ravens but still see Cincinnati as the favorite in the AFC North.

Focusing on the Passing Game

Baltimore Ravens 2023 Preview

The Ravens will come back with roughly the same team, but there will be a change in direction. That change started with the retirement of offensive coordinator Greg Roman. He perfected the power run offense, which showed off Jackson’s rushing prowess. Todd Monken is taking over and will move the focus over to passing.

Jackson is known for his legs and ability to get around defenders, but now Monken wants to showcase his arm. That’s why the Ravens have surrounded Jackson with receivers. And besides, you don’t want your quarterback taking so many hits by running the ball. They’ll still have that option, but less often. This will be especially important near the end of the season as Baltimore makes their playoff run. Why risk injury when he’s been injured twice in so many years?

A Rock-Solid Defense Had Little Updates

Besides the two WR free agents, the Ravens also signed two cornerbacks to replace Marcus Peters, who was often injured. Rock Ya-Sin and Trayvon Mullen both gave up just one touchdown into their coverage last season. However, both missed games because of injury.

Edge defender David Ojabo should be back in the lineup after missing almost his entire rookie 2022 season. The former Michigan Wolverine suffered a torn Achilles during his pro day, and he still managed to play for two games. In his one year as a starter with the Wolverines, he recorded 35 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. He forced five fumbles and recovered another. He is an incredible athlete who can improve the Baltimore defense, but his type of injury takes a while to recover from. We’ll have to wait and see if he fully recovers this year or needs another season.

The Ravens have a solid foundation on both sides of the ball and should be able to make double-digit wins this year. But they have some variables that could either drop them below that or have them competing with the top three teams in the AFC – Kansas City, Buffalo, and Cincinnati. So make sure you keep your limits in for Baltimore and use your layoff account if needed.
